Less a museum and more an example of how the past can co-exist with the present, The Mint, which includes the remnants of Australia’s first coining factory, now houses the head office of the HHT, the Caroline Simpson Library & Research Collection, a café and award-winning venue hire spaces.
The 2004 redevelopment of the site saw the conservation of the surviving historic Coining Factory structures and new buildings added to the site. These new buildings were carefully designed and located to complement the proportions and geometric alignments of the historic structures.
If you’re walking along historic Macquarie Street, call in to explore The Mint and stop for a coffee on the front verandah café or enjoy the quiet calm of the central courtyard.
